Kelag International strengthens its Italian portfolio
Through this long-term partnership with Swisspower Renewables, we are expanding our renewable energy portfolio, consisting of 54 renewable power plants, by adding new renewable assets. The acquisition includes Kelag International’s 100% ownership of eight hydropower plants and one wind park, as well as a 40% stake in 29 hydropower plants and two wind power plants.
Following this transaction, our renewable energy portfolio reaches a total installed capacity of 304 MW and around 744 GWh of annual electricity generation. This further strengthens Italy’s position as one of our company’s key growth markets and underlines our commitment to investing in high-quality renewable energy assets that contribute to regional development and Europe’s shift toward sustainable and energy-independent power systems.

A total of 40 renewable power plants are located across Italy, with the majority situated in the northern part of the country, where hydropower assets are predominantly concentrated. In the south, our wind assets harness the Tyrrhenian winds, benefiting from favorable coastal wind conditions. Together, these assets form a geographically diversified renewable portfolio spanning multiple regions of Italy.
“This partnership represents an important step in extending our hydropower expertise beyond Austria. By applying our long-standing operational experience in Italy, we aim to ensure stable operations, improve efficiency, and deliver lasting value to the regions where we operate”, says Managing Director of Kelag International, Christian Schwarz.
We’re looking forward to continuing our work and further developing our renewable projects.
